The story of the MOVE Organization begins with one man. 

His name is John Africa. 

Born in the bottom of West Philly during the depression, he never got above the third grade level in school. Intellectually he operated on a different wavelength. He spent much of his time outdoors in undisturbed forests, open fields, and along riverbanks. He had a remarkable rapport with animals and took care of numerous stray dogs. 

Unencumbered by a system education, he noticed an unparalleled harmony, immutability, and correctness in the world of nature. Using Life as his reference point he developed a profound insight and awareness that led to a visionary strategy. 

John Africa felt very strongly that lives matter. Not just Black lives, not just human lives, but all Life – dogs, cats, birds, trees, ants, grass, rivers, soil. Decades before the terms “climate change” and “global warming” entered public discourse John Africa concluded that something was horribly wrong with modern society and that the institutions of government, industry, and big business were a threat to all Life. 

Rather than merely assert the existence of a problem, John Africa was determined to actively do something about it. As bad as the situation had become he felt it would require nothing less than a total revolution. So he started one.
